Child Protection and Safeguarding Children Team

Introduction

All those who come into contact with children and families in their everyday work, including people who do not have a specific role in relation to child protection, have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.

Our Aim

To provide a comprehensive, coordinated and quality service, to a range of health personnel across Sunderland to safeguard and promote children's welfare.

What is the Safeguarding children team?

The team consists of

  • Designated Nurse Child Protection
  • Designated Nurse Child Protection Support
  • Designated Nurse Looked After Children
  • Safeguarding Children Child Protection Nurse Advisors (Three)
  • Safeguarding Children Child Protection Trainer

Designated Nurse Child Protection

Designated nurse child protection leads the safeguarding children team and takes a professional lead on all aspects of the health service contribution to safeguarding children.

Designated Nurse Child Protection Support

Designated nurse child protection support provides comprehensive administrative support to designated nurse.

Designated Nurse Looked After Nurse

Designated nurse looked after nurse provides professional advice on looked after children to health staff and Local Authority staff.

Safeguarding Children Child Protection Nurse Advisors

Safeguarding children child protection nurse advisors provides professional advice to health staff for safeguarding children.

Safeguarding Children Child Protection Trainer

Safeguarding children child protection trainer plans and delivers training for all health staff and offers training programs, both single and multi ageny.

Who is the Service available to?

The Safeguarding children team provides advice and support to all health staff. They are available Monday to Friday 830-5pm
